Human Life and Mother Ocean - Wondering about the future of ocean

企画概要

海は、膨大な熱を蓄え、地球気候システムの維持に重要な役割を果していますが、近年、海洋汚染・地球温暖化・乱獲による生態系への悪影響などが明らかになり、海洋環境の保全や生物資源の保護が急務の課題になっています。例えば、海洋中の鉛直混合が活発になると、植物プランクトンが栄養源を取り込み、二酸化炭素が大気から海洋に吸収されるために温暖化が抑えられます。こうした海における多様な課題を念頭に、実際の海岸で採取した砂に含まれるプラスチックやお台場の海で採取された様々なプランクトンの観察や実際の海にみられる構造を再現する実験体験を通して、私たちの生活に関わる海の問題に参加者とともに考えていくことを目指します。

The ocean stores a huge amount of heat and plays an important role in maintaining the global climate system. However, in recent years, it has become clear that marine pollution, global warming, and overfishing are having a negative impact on the ecosystem. Conservation and protection of biological resources have become urgent issues. For example, when vertical mixing in the ocean becomes more active, phytoplankton take in nutrients and carbon dioxide is absorbed from the atmosphere into the ocean, thereby suppressing global warming. With these various issues in the ocean in mind, we will observe various plankton collected from the sea in Odaiba and plastic contained in sand collected from actual beaches, and make experiments that reproduce structures found in the actual ocean. Our aim is to work with participants to think about ocean issues relating to our lives.
